Trustee with AA Beneficiaries Lesotho

In early 2003 we were introduced to Dr Mphu Ramatlapeng in Lesotho and were soon funding ARV's for 18 of her patients. Dr Ramatlapeng is very well connected within the Kingdom of Lesotho and used access to AA funds to start the first HIV/AIDS treatment center in the country. In October 2005 Dr Ramatlapeng accepted the position of Director for the Clinton Funding Programme in Lesotho. As from April 2006 all 18 AA members were able to obtain ARV's from this new source.

Dr Mphu Ramatlapeng

"Four years ago, when ARVs were but a distant hope for most of the Basotho people suffering from HIV/AIDS, Aids Ark stepped in and made this pipe dream a reality. Aids Ark are regarded as 'the' pioneers of ARV treatment in the Kingdom of Lesotho. Many patients, who in all likelihood would have died without the treatment made possible by Aids Ark, are today not only alive, but productive, happy, and eager to do what they can to help those who continue to suffer. Aids Ark has truly played such a role and for this I and my people express our overwhelming gratitude."

"Aids Ark support of the first successful HIV/AIDS treatment and care program in Lesotho, led to the formation of the Karabong Clinic at Mafeteng Hospital which has been a model for treatment and care in the country. The staff of this clinic is constantly utilized for the training of other healthcare professionals in the country. The success of this clinic is directly responsible for our Government's recent decision to fund the supply of "first line" ARV's for all those in such need in our Kingdom. Such news has surpassed our wildest hopes and dreams."
